Enter Fungirl. The newest it-brand of functional mushrooms dresses its high-quality 'shroom supplements in Instagram-worthy cool, vibrant colors and the cutest graphics.

Fungirl is the brainchild of certified holistic nutritionist Isabella Zar, who has been obsessed with functional mushrooms since she was first introduced to their benefits while working at a health café on Australia’s Bondi Beach. But the impetus for creating a 'shroom-centric brand didn’t begin with mushrooms. Instead, it started with her stomach.

While studying to be a nutritionist, Zar, who struggles with the inflammatory bowel condition ulcerative colitis, stumbled across guar gum. Guar Gum is a water-soluble dietary fiber that can help with digestive issues. “One of my professors suggested I try it, and the results were insane,” she says. “It completely changed my gut symptoms.”

She began taking guar gum powder daily, eventually blending it with collagen powder for additional benefits to the gut and skin. It was only then that she decided to incorporate her obsession with functional mushrooms into the mix. Specifically, she chose to add brain-protecting lion’s mane mushrooms to her homemade health aid. “Lion’s mane makes me feel super switched on and focused,” she says. “I experience the most profound benefits from it.” Finally, she topped the concoction off with coconut milk powder and began making jars of it, which she tested out on friends and family. “The feedback was really positive, and they wanted more!” she says.
